What we think:
Those of you who have always stood by the manager's decisions stand up! Everyone still sitting down? It's obvious isn't it, they never do what you think is best. Now you can do more than just moan about it over a couple of pints in your local, you can take control. Drop the supporter life (kebabs, beer, ludicrous satellite fees) and start the manager life (big cigars, VIP nights, private jets) and take your team to glory.
Championship Manager, the pioneer of the economico-sport sim-management game (try saying that 10 times fast), is back with more improvements than ever. The concept, of course, stays the same: use your brains to properly manage the different choices for your team, because every little thing has its consequences. And when you're juggling the budget, the training sessions, the match-side management, player transfers, scouting and all the rest those consequences can really build up...
There are some major improvements of this version: the interface has been re-made letting you better explore the massive CM database (up to date with the 05/06 season), but best of all is the greater control you have over your players. Encourage them, appreciate them, beg them, play them or sack them, whatever you decide they'll react almost like their real-world counterparts (watch-out for those footy-star hissy-fits).
The real revolution for CM is the "GamePlan" (TM) view. This great tool lets you watch the action in those all important matches. With changing camera angles, adjustable zoom, as well as choosing what stats come up on the screen, it all lets you see the match perfectly, letting you make those important decisions based not only on the stats of your player but on his great performance (or massive errors) he made in the actual match.
Perfect for football fans who'll see the great translation from real-life to screen, but also a must-try for those of you who have yet to pick up a CM game thanks to the simple, intuitive interface and the GamePlan view.
After a few hundred hours of experience you might even be ready to send your Champ Manager CV off to a premiership club.
